Location Profile - Peak Rail - Darley Dale
Thanks to Brian Cuttell for the details about this location
Preserved railway closed by BR in 1968 and re-opened by Peak Rail in 1992. Stock is kept in the north & south yards. On operating days see the duty manager at the north end of the station as it may be possible to get a permit to visit the south yard (the Wickham trolley and a HGR 230 lifter/slewer are kept here and aren't easily visible from the public path or passing trains - You can just get them by looking under a Mk1 sleeping coach from the public footpath).
Directions
Take the A6 north from Matlock, then left on to the B5057 (signposted Winster) at Darley Dale. Roadside parking before level crossing & at the station. A public footpath follows the line so some stock can be seen from outside and most of the rest from the trains.
Trent Transpeak bus from Nottingham/Derby - Manchester/ Stockport serves the A6 (5 mins walk from station)
Usual machines
Steam breakdown crane ADRC95223 is normally kept here & diesel crane DRS81139 is kept here or at Rowsley. Trolley TR6 (DX68051) and small plant 60130 (2-RZ 35/1976) are off track in the south yard.
