Location Profile - Eastleigh

Thanks to Steve Wright/Ben Williams for the details about this location

Eastleigh yard normally contains MPVs, TRAMMs and other machines - mainly tampers and cranes. A ballast cleaner is also stored here. It is also a freight yard for EWS and Frieghtliner. There are nearly always MPVs stabled close to the station - often new ones come here first on test.

Directions

The yard can be seen with the naked eye from the end of platform 2 or 3 of Eastleigh station, but better views are offered by passing trains between Eastleigh and Winchester.

By car - follow signs for Southampton Airport from the M3 then once you get closer, start following signs for Eastleigh.

Usual machines

MPVs, Stoneblowers, Cranes, Tampers

76303 is stored here at present.

The Skako ballast train can normally be found at the TMD.

Eastleigh MPVs are now kept in the works yard at Eastleigh and they can be seen from passing Fareham trains when out and about they use platforms 2 & 3 both when leaving the works and to gain entrance back on to the works.

    hope this helps

    Les
