Location Profile - Guide Bridge OTPD
Thanks to Colin Bird for the details about this location
Jarvis maintenance depot for Manchester area.
Directions
From Guide Bridge station turn right immediately; and right immediately down a cobbled path back alongside parallel to the railway. This path leads to the entrance to the Jarvis site at the end of this road. You will pass a First North western car compound here on your left sometimes a Road/Rail Land Rover here.
If this entrance to the site is locked then from the station still turn right and right at the traffic lights towards Ashton under Lyne, continue along this road passing the Shell garage on your left, you need a road on your right before the park - Pottinger Street - this is about 250 yards from the traffic lights. Turn right and down to the bottom, over the canal bridge and the Jarvis site is infront of you. Walk left along the perimeter wall (its quite a drop if you fell!) and you will see some of the machines. Back to the canal bridge and along the path above the tow path - this takes you past the shed building and you will see the yard from here and also the end of the cobbled path from station. Here you will get more machines if present.
Usual machines
Tampers, ballast regulators and a stoneblower are often present. 76216 and 77601 are resident. Also 98300 can usually be found here.

A couple of comments following a recent visit.
Firstly, the "cobbled path" route leads you into the depot. It is unlikely you will be able to identify much in the way of machinery present without permission to enter the depot itself.
There is a mistake in the second paragraph, as you will need to turn left not right out of the station then right at the end of the station access road. It is worth mentioning that all directions assume you are arriving by rail from the Manchester direction.
Do not be put off by the comments about the drop into the canal. There are substancial steel railings to stop you falling!
Finally, machinery parked at the north end of the depot can be identified with binoculers from a public park on the left hand side just before the bridge over the canal (the tow path drops too low to identifiy machinery on the depot north of the bridge). Also a decent view of machinery can be had from trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Stalybridge.
