Location Profile - Peak Rail - Rowsley
Thanks to Brian Cuttell for the details about this location
Preserved railway running from Matlock-Rowsley South. Mainly steam operated but a few Ex-BR diesels & DMU cars present.
Most of the stock is kept in the open. See the duty manager in the hut at the station for possible permission to look around the yard on operational days.
Directions
Take the A6 north from Matlock towards Bakewell. Continue through Darley Dale and the site is signposted on your left after the Shalimar Restaurant. There is a large car park next to the station. A public footpath runs next to the line so some stock can be seen on non operating days. The Trent Transpeak bus from Nottingham/Derby - Manchester/Stockport serves the adjacent A6 road.
Usual machines
Tamper DX74407 is usually kept here (or sometimes at Darley Dale).
Small plant 56304 (2-RZ 26/1976) is operational (and easily missed!).
Operational diesel crane DRS81139 is found here or at Darley Dale.
Other track machines occasionally present for testing contracts etc.
