Location Profile - Temple Mills / Stratford New

Thanks to Peter Cummings for the details about this location

The bulk of the Temple Mills Yard site from the M11 link up to the EWS

depot area is now part of the CTRL2 works. The replacement depot for

North Pole is under construction here. EWS retain a small fan of

sidings next to the running lines which could stable engineers

trains/OTP for short periods before/after use. The new Eurostar depot

will screen these sidings from the road, but from Dec 2005 an all-day

Stratford - Stansted Airport service will be using this route, rather

than the occasional ghost train of late.

The whole of the previous activity centred on this yard was transferred

away, mostly to Whitemoor.

The EWS depot is still easily viewed from the parallel road. Despite

attempts to remove it, the footbridge spanning the holding sidings on

the north side is still in situ. This leads to limited further viewing

from the parkland to the west of the running lines.

Directions

On foot, cross road on leaving LUL Leyton Station.

Use pedestrian access to ASDA. Go to far side of carpark, and just follow the boundary fence. New Leyton Relief Road runs north from ASDA and past the whole site. Car access to this road is from Ruckholt Road ( A106) or Lea Bridge Rd ( A104). Only scheduled trains to run past the yard are WAGN's ghost trains.

Usual machines

Apart from the bogie Snowploughs, The loco depot is home base for several MPVs.

Depending on the nature of each seasonal contract, Loco-hauled RHTT's

can be based here too.

Over the 12 months from Autumn 2005 there will no doubt be items of OTP

involved in the preparation for the arrival of Eurostars. By Oct 2005

groundwork for the new track layout was underway on the area of the old

East Fan of the yard

It's all of those, but you can ignore the references to the EWS depot. Now fully cleared and vacated. Some functions transferred to Riple Lane, some to Old Oak.

    Its future is a mystery.

    * Is it claimed by Eurostar?

    * Will it be the tempory home for the Freightyard at Bow?

    * Is is the site for the replacement carriage sidings for the current Thornton Fields?

The latter seems possible, as BB have the contract for these, described as being on Leyton Way. I thought they were going on the site on the opposite side of lines to ASDA, but that would not be Leyton way.
