Location Profile - Wyvern Rail, Wirksworth
Thanks to Brian Cuttell for the details about this location
Heritage/Commuter railway under construction with track still in place since freight traffic ended over 10 years ago. Stock can mostly be seen from the B5035 bridge at the Southern end of the yard but its best to go on an advertised open day for a closer look.
In June 2002 stock consisted of 2 Ex-Industrial diesel shunters, 4 wagons and the two plant vehicles below.
Directions
Wirksworth station is easily found as it is on the B5035 just West of the Town Centre. Take the B5036 from the A6 at Cromford in to Wirksworth then turn left on to the B5035 near the Market Place. Alternatively, take the B5035 westbound from the A6 at Whatstandwell. Wirksworth is well served by bus. From Derby, Matlock or Belper catch Trent R61 (Mon-Sat) or Stagecoach 61 (Sun + Bank Hol Mons). 5 mins walk from Market Place.
Usual machines
DX68805 & DX98707 both repainted red and no longer carrying any numbers when seen in June 2002.
In November 2002, the above two machines were joined by two more Personel Carriers, two Permaclippers, a steam crane (ex MRC) and some RRs. One Permaclipper and one Personel Carrier are being salvaged for spares.
