Locations - Exmouth Junction OTPD
Thanks to Ben Williams for the details about this location
Mainly disused - formerly main OTPD in the south west. Jarvis and Amey still have some offices here.
Directions (view map)
The depot can be viewed from passing trains - either on Exeter to Exmouth trains or SWT services between Exeter and London. Its quite a walk from Exeter St Davids station - closest station is Polsloe Bridge on the Exmouth branch. The depot can be viewed from Prince Charles Road which runs parallel to the railway. The driveway to the depot also runs parallel between this road and the railway (see map) with allotments on the left. This is now used just for the railway staff I think but there are gates at the bottom and the ballast cleaner and track relayers can be viewed here without entering the confines of the depot.
Usual machines
Ballast cleaner 76209 and single line track relayers 78420/78421 are resident as is 73235 which was used as a depot shunter and is inside the shed. Road rail land rover also there on my visit.

The depot is of course now a shadow of its former self. 73235 is all that now remains inside the shed and even this has a far from secure future.....

This depot has now been demolished, and 73235 scrapped.
Only the base of the watertower remains.

Since December 2008 the site of the former C & W depot - later Plant Depot has been used by Murphys. It appears to be a base for GSMR equipment being erected around the SW.Numerous assortments of varying concrete products can be seen along with relay rooms. One of which has been sited at Exmouth Junction.
Not common knowledge a class 155 unit 155308 was stored in the C & W Depot prior to conversion to Class 153's in 1989.
Exmouth Junction up arrival is used as a turnround point for services terminating /commencing at St James Park Halt/ Exeter Central. In the present summer 2009 timetable units can be seen at around 0820(M-F),1620(M-F) and 2030(M-S). A second line is often used by ontrack plant machines.
