Locations - York Leeman Road OTPD

Thanks to Ben Williams & Peter Cummings for the details about this location

Jarvis' main plant depot.

Directions (view map)

Several options here! - from the station turn left and then left again into Leeman Road (following signs to National Railway Museum) Pass under the railway until you get to the museum. From here you have two choices - firstly there is a footpath which leads south straight on with the station now on your left and the museum on your right. Follow this all the way along until you reach the footbridge over the freight only station avoiding lines. From here you can see the rear of the Jarvis works. Alternatively continue straight along down Leeman Road between the museum buildings on either side. As the road bends right and dives under the ECML there is another gateway into the site - some stored OTP can be viewed from here. There is also a third vantage point from the far side near Thrall wagon works. To get here you need to turn right out of the station, right again into Blossom Street and then right again into the A59 Holgate Road. Further along there is a new development on the right where the Jarvis yard can be viewed from the side as well as the back of the Thrall wagon works.

PC adds: Having crossed the footbridge mentioned, check out the cul-de-sacs on the right. These give further angles on the works building part of the site. Halfway down Leeman Rd, the old GPO site is being redeveloped with swanky-looking blocks of flats. Go through to the back of this area for a further angle on the other side of the works building, and the sidings at the back.

The entrance mentioned on the bend in Leeman Rd is not used at weekends. Weekend access is through the portacabin village alongside NRM2.

Usual machines

Anything owned by Jarvis can be found here. Also, the spoil/ballast trains used on the WCML can be found here periodically undergoing maintenance.

This location has many residents, including old ballast cleaners, cranes and Donelli single line gantries. There are too many to list!
