Recent bits (July 2006)
4 July 2006
Not a lot has happened lately, but I'll do a quick round up anyway.
New Machine
First Swietelsky have taken delivery of their second Plasser & Theurer AFM2000RT Track Finishing Machine - 77002 (believed to be 537 of 2006).
Preservation
Two movements, both happening within days of each other during May.
Plasser & Theurer GP-TRAMM 98205 is now at the Llandu with the Cambrian Railway Society. This had spent several years out of use at Shrewsbury. Please note: public access to this site is currently not permitted.
Another TRAMM movement, this time the unique Kershaw built 98801. this is now at the North Norfolk Railway, moving from Colchester OTPD where it languished unused for around four years.
Disposal
73239 (which was damaged by fire at Tebay in August last year) has been scrapped at Nottingham Eastcroft in the past few weeks.
Mystery solving
One of Network Rail's breakdown cranes has recently re-appeared. 96712 disappeared from Derby Etches Park during 2003. It was thought to have been scrapped; but there was an element of doubt, what with NR's penchant for storing stock at obscure locations. It has recently been seen at the ex-carriage works in York sporting a repainted jib.
