I would check the piston liners we used to change these quite regular. The TASC's used to run very warm as well because of where the engine sat

The engine has now been stripped down. One piston is damaged, replacement parts have been ordered. When they have arrive the engine will be rebuilt. Once the engine is ok and runs it will be replaced on the machine. The the rest of the machine will then be overhauled. Report as of 13/03/07.

what are the rollers for bellow the buffers
DR 98500
2 February 2008 - Bryan
Would they be legs for stabilising when the jib is in use? But still enabling movement forward and back.
DR 98500
2 February 2008 - Simon Warnes
The small metal boxes above the rollers contain hydraulic cylinders that lower the rollers. One of the main reasons the rollers were used in the design is that if you are moving the TASC and back filling into a trench the vechile would be very unsable. So the rollers inable the machine to move both forward and reverse with the Hiab or Tipper deployed.

Yes good to see two preserved - shame three have been scrapped though. 98506 was exported and the last one remains at Slateford OOU.

It would be nice to enquire about the slateford one again. It would be very useful especially for construction of the Aln Valley...

16 July 2008 - Neil Mc Millan
This was the only tasc with rollers, the chassis was extended to enable a bigger crane to be fitted (originally supplied with a hiab 030) the rollers aided the stabillity and enabled the machine to be moved short distances in crane mode.

5 October 2008 - M Winter
The reason this TASC has a different crane is that we believe it was driven under a bridge with the original crane left raised.
Hence a replacement crane had to be fitted.
The engine has been overhauled further progess on restoration is progressing slowly,as we have been waiting to obtain some brake valves.
Most of the cab gauges were smashed while it was in store at Perth and we are hoping to source these soon.
This TASC was improved so that it could pull a wagon and has a train air brake system.

I would say that this photo is taken out the back of the Perth OTP shed on the opposite side from the main yard, the photogragher is likely standing on the concrete at the shed entrance ??

30 August 2010 - Dave Shell - Northumbria Rail Ltd.
It was looking good when Craig and I dropped by Wansford on Saturday (28/08/10). I'm glad we were able to provide some stickers (aquired by us from Jarvis/Fastline) to help with the repaint. (Thanks again for the tools guys).
