Is this crane one of the ten to be delivered in 1958?
I would like to know, because i'm making a model of those.
Any other links or information would be welcome.
Thanks

these cranes are the basis for the Dapol kit however you will need to change the chassis to a rigid one rather than bogies and build a runner wagon aswell

What kind of wagon is being used as the runner. It looks quite interesting. Pre grouping vintage??

Most of these cranes ran with a Macaw H, 25ton Bogie Bolsters, as their runner. Number series DW1071xx.
Frustratingly, the 1988 LRWS Crane Runners publication doesn't list the runner with 81551 - but does mention its staff van, Toad DW35266.
The LRWS 1990 Pre-nat vehicles book however, does list DW107116 (1928 vintage) as being with 81551.

What is the LWRS Crane runners publication? Other than a publication about Crane runners.
Is it national coverage ? Is it available anywhere?
Also for information the 15t Coles crane used by the NYMR PW dept DE2524 of 1958 also used a macaw B bolster ( W 103310) as a runner when it was in use at YORK BREL prior to arrival on NYMR in 1991.
Since been replaced by a shorter wagon (ex hopper) as a runner and the macaw returned to use as a bolster on the NYMR.

LRWS.
Leicester Railway Wagon Society was in existence from, roughly, the mid-1980's up to the late 1990's.
A small group of folk produced a more-or less bi-monthly magazine for subscribers, with articles, news, sightings, etc, etc, as well as annual fleetlist books for the wagon fleets. Ran to around 70 issues, IIRC. There were also a few editions each of Crane Runners and Pre-Nationalisation Freight Vehicles of British railways.
Most of the output was duplicated/off-set litho.
The Crane Runners book I have is the 2nd edition -32 A5 pages.
The Pre-nat I have is but 16 pages and is mostly the current departmental/revenue fleets at 1990. This volume grew hugely once Preservation/MOD etc sites were included.
Crane Runners lists all Cranes/Tracklayers and Ballast Cleaners and, where known at the time, all the Runners/Match Wagons/Departmental Coaches/Stores vans associated with each seperate machine. Despite being very much a 'work in progress', it was hugely useful at the time. The author was Dave Thornloe.
LRWS fizzled out when its main instigator got more interested in aeroplanes, but there is a direct link from then to now with the wagon fleetlist books from Mark and Barry Gardner, also Leicester residents.
I'll e-mail them and see if they think any of the old LRWS booklets are still likely to be around anywhere in someones loft.
