ADRC 95204, or as it is numbered now and was for most on its active life RS1054/50, was built by Cowans Sheldon & Co Lrd of Carlisle, works number 5113 in 1930 as a 36 ton crane. It was rebuilt by it's makers with a capacity of 50 tons in 1938, works number 6638. It carries plates on the far side with all these details on. The jib carrier is number DM299855. The crane spent its entire LMS/BR career in Scotland, so seemed a stange choice for preservation by the Great Western Society at Didcot, where it arrived in September 1987. It usually lives in the engine shed, but was outside making room for celebrity guest 'City of Truro'.

How come this Cowans crane is labelled Clarke Chapman ?

Clarke Chapman never built a steam crane in their life.
