Not quite sure how this thing ended up being based on the old Southern region, a bit like having a fridge in the south pole? Did it ever see any action!!

Only one occasion I can remember and that was the year Kent got proper snow (I want to say 1987 but I may be thinking of the strong winds...!? Someone will correct me no doubt.)

in the winter of 1986(?) when much of the south-east was paralysed for nearly a week, NSE felt it necessary to borrow the Inverness snow blower - after that they decided they wouldn't be caught out like that again and bought their own. The Project Manager who bought it has still to see it work in a proper snowfall.

We think both are stored at York in the former Thrall works (with its support coaches) although no one has been able to confirm this yet..... perhaps someone out there?!

This machine is based in Scotland, At the moment it is stabled in the workshop at New Tulloch yard Perth just in case we get a little flutter of snow. The machine is now painted yellow and has the Network rail livery. The machine is operated by First Engineering.

I was the chap that justified and purchased this machine, the reason it was purchased was following the really bad winter in 1987 (as I recall) when the whole of the Southeast was closed for almost 2 weeks, and the future introduction of the Channel Tunnel it was seen as essential the Channel tunnel route remained open in the event of another bad winter. Yes was used once on Southeast and I am sure again since its transfer to the North

Yes - it was the winter of 1986-87 that Kent has several feet of snow
