built by permaquip, with a huge input from a guy who I think worked for powell duffryn. it was built with use in the mersey tunnel in mind, hence the door in the cab front. it also had fire resistant hydraulics and one of the first low emission diesel engines (by cummins). it shared some of its engineering with the railbuses of the time.

98404 has been purchased by Ribble Steam Railway, & was delivered to their Preston site on 13th September for restoration to worker order, & use on the Dock Railway
