What happened to the cab and engine? Was it a fire?

caught fire while being driven along the motorway (M6 i believe).

Interesting... and quite worrying for the driver / crew involved at the time! Presumably all sorts of checks on unimogs of the same model followed this incident? I think some are still in use today with NwR, but S528 VOP and S529 VOP now seem to be stored too...
