This has been here for well over a year now - anyone know if it will ever return to service?! Balfour's HCT004 has also now been moved nearby - to suffer a similarly long period of storage?

These machines required a load of work to bring them up to current standards with regards to LOLER and other regulations. First Engineering carried out works to 2 of their machines, but found it prohibitive given their usage now.

Would it be possible to remove the platform / lift and converting to flatbed?

Er - a HCT trolley without its lifting platform?! Brilliant idea.

i think jonathen floods idea is a good idea. if not ideal for mainline, im sure some preserved railway could make use of it rather than them going to scrap. i doubt any will get offered to preservation people thouhgh. heck, even with a lifting platform it would be a good idea. imagine having hct rides! i bet health & saftey will have a field day

I should have qualified my question with "for preservation or non-mainline use", as from Ben's original comment it is clear these machines are being left to rot by First Engineering and from Stuart's comment it appears that this is because due to their diminshed usage FR would get no return on the investment required to bring them up to "mainline standard". But as Sam says they will probably just end up being scrapped!!

Jonathan - I't would probablt be possible to convert these machines into a version similar to the tug design that permacrap made, but I don't think it would be an easy undertaking. Just trying to get their products to operate as designed is hard enougth ;)

You'll also notice the blacked out window. I forgot to put about this in my original post. The cab went on fire and was extensively damaged. Hence the smokey glass.

hmm I didnt notice the cab was fire damaged - that may explain things! Doesn't look too good for the future...
