As mentioned in one of the recent comments, there has been a large Network Rail order for a new ballast cleaning system. I thought it would be a good time to do a quick roundup of other machines due in the future. Some CEPS numbers are guesses based on existing ranges/types, so these are subject to change. Likewise, due dates are approximate.

I've probably missed one or two, so if you know of anything else then please get in touch (via email if you don't want to post in public). Thanks!

Note: this post only covers large machines. If you have any new road-railers to mention, please post in the RR forum.

re: the Network Rail tampers, three are on order not two; two are 09-2X-D-RT machines with 3rd rail capability, and one is an 09-3X-D-RT.

Some interesting DR/RIV numbers have emerged for the new Plasser machines:

DR74002 = 99 70 9128002-1 - 09-2X/CM? (Which begs the question, is there a 74001? SBRail's "928001" perhaps??)

DR77010 = 99 70 9125010-7 - USP6000?

DR77909 = 99 70 9125909-0 - USP5000

DR73120 = 99 70 9123120-6 (what's happened to 73119? Was this initially allocated to one of the initial two 09-3Xs and subsequently cancelled/skipped when the order was changed to two 09-2Xs (73122?), or am I reading too much into the gap?)

DR73121 = 99 70 9123121-4

DR73122 = 99 70 9123122-2

The 1231xx & 1259xx are interesting, do the older 731xx/779xx machines have correlating RIV numbers assigned?

The older machines will have a UIC number assigned, but who knows whether they correlate or not! Think it's about time the older stuff started carrying their 12 digit numbers!

Initial list updated with Crossrail Linginger milling train, two new Kirows for TransPlant, three new Loram C44(XX) grinding sets for Network Rail, and a few delivery dates.

Can someone tell the numbers?

92920 - 92932 arrived mid-March 2016 (although no-one has reported sightings of them).

DR92908-DR92932 are all being stored in Carlisle Yard at the moment. They are supposed to be put through acceptance testing at Tuxford. I think they are in Carlisle for safe storage and waiting for the rest of the train to arrive before moving down to Tuxford. A couple of weeks ago, work took place over a few days at Edwinstowe to install 3rd rail sleepers. This I presume is to test these wagons as I believe this HOBC set is to be Southern Region based.

DR74002/128002 is SBRail's second 09-4x4, apologies for mistake in initial listing.

The first tamper is due around the back end of July Vince. The first 2X and the USP5000 mid-August, and the rest of the kit is arriving in September.

The railgrinder trains are:

4 car consist machine x 2, named CRG01 and CRG02 (corrective rail grinder), working primarilty in a possession with the option of amalgamating to form an 8 car machine.

7 car consist machine x 1 named PLG01 (plain line grinder), working primarily in traffic.

Sorry, I don't know the DR numbers yet but CRG01 is due to arrive on these shores in autumn 2016, with CRG02 arriving early 2017 and PLG01 arriving in the spring.

Thanks for keeping us up to date with this. I saw 44 very shiny new looking wagons at Doncaster Decoy yesterday. Too far away to get any numbers, but I believe they are DR92900 - DR92943 inclusive.

They were formed into 2 rakes of 22.

Lodge Lane is a private industrial estate and has a barrier , normally in the up position but can be lowered when the security hut is manned. Where the wagons have been parked today, even with access onto Lodge Lane, you will be very lucky to read or even see half of the rake.

Twice there has been schedules in for these wagons to move from Dollands Moor to Thoresby. The latest move was cancelled due to paperwork. I noticed from Steves postings that 92478 has not been sighted at DM, the rest are there. Is this one of the reasons these have not moved as yet?

These are parked quite awkwardly at Dollands Moor, with the wagons at the very north end. Having blown up a photo, I think only one wagon is present.

Yes another STP schedule ,6Z42, in for Tuesday morning. Booked off Dollands Moor 00:29 same route as last week and arrives Thoresby 07:56. I'm not holding my breath.

Hi Ben, I may well be wrong with my earlier comment, apologies to all - are the power wagons single cabbed? If so there are probably 2 of them. I can't really see a join in the middle, but I can see cabs at both ends (the side window only on the one facing away from where I was stood).

Both power wagons have a single cab. They can only travel back-to-back unless the Spoil Power Wagon conveyor is supported on a match wagon or MFS wagon. When back-to-back the the conveyor is supported by the New Ballast Power Wagon. In this case it is difficult to see the join.

DR79301 - has anyone seen this since the start of November? Are the other vehicles with it? In general, does anyone have more info please?

515006 RailVac - things have been quiet on this front, would've expected the final machine to have been delivered by now.

I am informed that a photo of this machine, taken in Sweden, appeared in the Nov - Dec 2016 issue of 'Rail Infrastructure' magazine.
