This is a Taylor & Hubbard crane, no. RDE1763, of 8½ tons capacity by the look of it. I have a photo of it seen at Ledburn Junction, in around 1964, installing OHLE gantry uprights.
I'd be interested to know more about it-where it was based, build date, scrapping date, are any similar preserved etc?
The photo was taken by a family member who worked on the electrification.
RDE1763 was Taylor & Hubbard wks no. 1735 of 1959. It was rated at 8.5t capacity but later uprated to 10t. When CEPS numbering was introduced it became ADRT 96414 and worked with match wagon DM235350. Depots it has been recorded allocated to were Neasden 5/64. Colchester 10/84 and Peterborough 11/85 before finally Heaton OHL Depot 4/88-3/91 It was scrapped in February 1995. Several similar examples are preserved : DRT 81353 at Nottingham Heritage Centre and DRT 81356 at the Battlefield Railway, Shackerstone. (Info sourced from Rail Cranes Vol.3 by Peter Tatlow).
Thanks Adrian, I've only just seen this post.
