YSA Wagons converted from WH Davis Sleeper Wagons

Following on from the recent news article about NR putting up for sale a Track Renewal Train, a number of queries have popped up regarding the nine(?) wagons converted at Loram in 2020.

Four have been confirmed with Land Recovery:

92634

92645

92647

92650

Leaving fivefour not seen for a while/status unknown:

92624 - for sale August 2023, last seen at Carlisle Kingmoor 2022-2024 (possibly TOPS list rather than eyeballed).

92639 - last seen Derby Loram, November 2021.

92644 - last seen Peak Rail, September 2020.

92646 - last seen M1 J27 southbound, from Peak Rail, July 2021.

92648 - last seen Derby Loram, October 2021.

Were any more converted, or just nine? Any help with locations of the missing five would be appreciated. Thanks!

DR 92639/44/6/8/50 were all reported at March Whitemoor on 20 April 2025 in a TOPS list posted to UKRailGen by Chris Warman and the list of wagons on site is unchanged since April 2024. However, Bradley Carroll posted a report from Whitemoss Quarry, Radway Green, on 11 August 2024 stating that DR92650 was on site there as well. DR 92634 was also recorded there, having last been noted at Whitemoor (also by Bradley) in February 2023.

Sadly, the problem with wagon sighting reports, especially in active yards is that what TOPS says is taken as gospel and thus reported as an actual observation. Whilst for active wagons TOPS is generally acurate it is far from that when it comes to inactive wagons. Road movements in particular go unrecorded and errors of inclusion in formations etc do not correct themselves. If you didn't eyeball confirm then don't report should be the motto but regrettrably isn't for everybody.

The queries of the editor mirror mine for these wagons so I'm unable to help much at this stage.

Something I try and do with inactive wagons in yards, such as Whitemoor, is to record precisely which siding they are on using the Railway Track Diagrams (formerly Quail). If this can be established then drone footage can be used to establish whether they are likely to be still present or not.

With regard to Whitemoss Quarry. I was sent a visit report dated 1/3/25 which lists DR92634, DR92645, DR92647, DR92650 as present. I believe these to be eyeball confirmations.

Regarding 92624, has anyone had the opportunity in post covid times to do an eyeball check of what is in Kingmoor Yard? If so, wich inactive wagons were present and on which siding where they?

Had another look at this. Couple of questions?

How sure are we that 92624 was converted to a workshop & barrier vehicle? Has it got muddled with 92634?

I tried to see if I could find the list of which were offerred for sale in August 2023. Does anyone still have that list?

Having looked at the tender, I can confirm that 92624 was a YXA sleeper wagon, so not a YSA barrier workshop. Have now altered the details and removed from the main topic.

Think the 92624 stems from a rogue presumably-incorrect Derby RTC sighting in 2021 and got muddled into the subsequent discussions about these wagon conversions. Same topic gives a link to video of the eight moving to Whitemoor from Loram on 18/11/2021.

Looking at this again, fair to say that the last conclusive evidence about 92639, 92644, 92646, 92648 is that they moved to Whitemoor on 18/11/21 along with the four now with Land Recovery. Thus quite probable that they are still in Whitemoor. Lack of any submitted sightings suggests no one that contributes to OTPNET ontrackplant.com has visited the yard other than for making sightings from the perimeter. Thus a couple more questions.

Does anyone know of any online drone footage of the yard that might help confirm if any wagons of this description are present.

Did 92634, 92645, 92647, 92650 appear on a tender list. If so, when and was it just those four that were offerred for sale or all eight?

Yes, only four 92634, 92645, 92647 & 92650 appeared on a tender list in May 2023.
