Mini 4-4s at Leigh on Sea

On Sat 21/03/26 I viewed the NR depot at Leigh on Sea from the adjacent platform London end. There were 2 out of use Mini 4-4s and supporting trailers in a compound. The trolleys were missing their gantries. I tried to locate numbers on the trolleys but couldn't due to the palisade fence and undergrowth getting in my way. Can anyone identify any of this for me please? Thanks in advance

Difficult to say for sure but 901168 was noted there in early 2025. This is ex Barking. There's a chance that the other is 901167 which was also Barking but this is definitely not certain!

There's also the two machines near Finsbury Park of course...

Hello Ben

Thanks for your reply

I did wonder if the 2 partly dismantled Mini 4-4s that I saw at Leigh on Sea were the 2 Barking ones (M44/116 and M44/117) as I didn't see any at Barking NR depot from my passing train that day. The OTP site also has M44/118 Active at Leigh on Sea. That one may have been in one of the buildings there at the time of my viewing, but that's really a guess.

Related I note that Vince has commented against M44/116 regarding a third trolley at this location. I assume you mean the Arsenal location Vince? If that is the case then those could easily be M44/116, M44/117 and M44/118.

I am still struggling with this query, I must say

I think there were four allocated to this area originally - 115,6,7,8 at Tottenham / Barking but I guess the fact there are three now near Arsenal plus the two at Leigh doesn't make things any clearer... pretty sure Leigh on Sea didn't have an allocation of these trollies originally.

Ok Ben,

Thanks for the update.

I guess the only way to resolve this is to gain a visit to or direct information from Leigh on Sea NR Depot. It may be some time before I am over that way again, sadly

Cheers, Martin
