Jonathan's second round-up of all things Wickham...

Type 17 900312 (Works No. currently unknown) has now left the K&ESR and been moved to a private site in the Midlands for restoration. On the same lorry, DX68050, a Type 4B (Works No. 6872) also left the K&ESR (previously it had been stored OOU at Tenterden) and has been moved to a private site in the Midlands for restoration.

Type 27A Mk III (Works No. 7139) has recently left the Foxfield Railway for a private site in the Midlands for restoration.

Type 27A Mk III (Works No. 6607) currently stored at a private site in Yorkshire. See photo opposite (larger version on the website soon.)

Type 27A Mk III (Works No. 6944) PWM3959 has been put up for sale by the Bluebell Railway. I hope to have news on its sale shortly.

Type 27A Mk IV Semi Open (Works No. 10647) MPP0007 has been placed on permanent loan to the Darlington Railway Preservation Society by Fastline. It is now based at the DRPS site at Darlington North Road Station alongside the DRPS’ Type 17A (Works No. 7611) 68022

Type 4B (Works No. 6901) 68051 has recently been reported as having had a new engine fitted as part of its restoration and is now running again. It is not known how much further work is required until the restoration is complete.

Type 27A Mk IV (Works Number 10943) 10943 was originally 3'6" gauge when supplied to the Southend Pier Railway. It was re-gauged to 2'0" gauge for use at the Brecon Mountain Railway. The Railway have confirmed that unfortunately it is currently unserviceable but thankfully it is stored under cover in a secure shed, awaiting attention to return it to running order.

Type 18A Mk IV Heavy Duty Gang Trolley 68090 has recently been restored to full working order at the Weardale Railway and it was recently used to take a party of Weardale Railway officers / staff including the President of the Railway’s American owners (Iowa Pacific Holdings) the full length of the restored railway and within sight of the Network Rail station at Bishop Auckland. (See Weardale Railway 29 January 2009 article.)

Type 18A Saloon (Works No. 6049) 970213 is based at the Bo'ness & Kinniel Railway alongside matching Type 18 Trailer (Works No. 6050 / 970214). The trailer has been fully restored and is now housed the museum at the Railway. The Railway is now looking to start restoring the Trolley to working order and would be very interested in either photos or drawings of the cab layout to assist with the restoration. The trolley appears to have had an engine change at some point in its career as it was originally built with a Ford V8 in 1952 but the engine now fitted appears to be a Petter. If anyone can assist, please contact me via the Wickham of Ware Yahoo! Site.

Type 27A (Works No. 5009) 68004 is currently undergoing a ground-up restoration at the Exeter & Teign Valley Railway site at Christow Station in Devon. The restoration includes straightening and strengthening the frame, new bearings, new Fairmont wheels and fitting a reconditioned engine with 12 volt electrics and an electronic ignition.
